Johnson Training is a specialist training company delivering pool plant and other technical and management training courses. They have successfully delivered hundreds of swimming pool plant operator courses throughout the UK, and have been responsible for training thousands of students/operators.  They have also delivered high level management training programmes for a number of major employers.

Our Principal Consultant, Jim Johnson, is considered to be one of the most experienced trainers in the UK and an expert in the field of pool plant operations, having trained thousands of pool plant operators over a twenty year period.

Jim is a Member of the Chartered Management Institute and a Member of the Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers. His industrial career spans a number of engineering and management disciplines based around engineering building services.  He was formerly a lecturer and then quality assurance manager at Liverpool Community College before leaving to form Johnson Training and Johnson Educational Consulting Ltd. He was formerly a Fellow of the Insitute of Sport and Recreation Management and a former President of the North West Region of the institute.

He is an external verifier and external examiner for a number of awarding bodies including Edexcel and Active IQ. He is the author of a number of learning resouces including the NEC distance learning units of the City and Guilds Higher Professional Diploma in Sport and Recreation Management and he is the lead tutor for the qualification.

He enjoys listening to music, most genres, but particularly classical music and jazz; and is an accomplished guitar player. He is an active member of the local Anglican church and one  of his other passions is visiting mediaeval castles.  He tries to spend as much time as he can with his family and enjoys walking his Cocker Spaniel dog.

Problem solving for pool plant operators and managers

This one day programme stands alone as a valuable CPD opportunity both for facility managers and also for those who are aspiring/progressing towards management positions. 

The course content is based around the PWTAG Swimming Pool Water Treatment and Quality Standards for Pools and Spas and The Management of Health & Safety in Swimming Pools (HSE) HSG 179 publications.

This qualification will help swimming pool managers, those with the responsibility for the operation of a swimming pool, and duty officers to manage more effectively the conditions that determine swimming pool water quality, engineering and technical services and oversee the work of outside engineering firms operating on service contracts.

This unit also aims to enable the candidate to develop a deeper understanding of issues addressed in other pool plant operator courses by moving the focus from operator level to management level, and by exploring and understanding the influences and processes involved in running swimming pools safely and efficiently and revolves around problem solving based on actual pool related problems.
