City and Guilds Higher Professional Diploma in Sport and Recreation Management/ISRM Sport and Recreation Management Certificate
Course Aims:
The leisure industry, and particularly the sport and recreation sector, is both diverse, and rapidly changing and developing. It is the aim of this course to produce competent, versatile people who react positively to change and who understand the forces which bring it about.
Essentially the programme provides a comprehensive grounding in the knowledge required to effectively manage sport and recreation facilities.
It is the ideal course for those wishing to enhance their current sport management skills or develop such skills in order to develop a career in sport management.
As a result of this course, management skills will be developed which will help successful students to be successful in operating sport and activity services.
There are no formal examinations. Assessment of each unit is based on assignments and coverage of the unit syllabus contents.
The course aims to develop the personal and interpersonal skills essential for success in the service sector where effective communication is necessary to meet customer needs.
Business and customer handling skills are developed in the context of the sport and recreation sector.
Although the course is primarily employment related, it also provides opportunities for those successfully completing it to progress on to other higher education courses; either in areas related to recreation and leisure, or in other areas, where the skills, knowledge and understanding gained on the course would be valuable.
The Qualification:
On successful completion of the programme the student would receive the City and Guilds Higher Professional Diploma in Sport and Recreation Management and also the ISRM Sport and Recreation Management Certificate.
The candidate would then be expected to provide sufficient evidence for them to be considered for full membership of the Institute.
The qualification is set at Level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework.
Course Structure:
The programme is validated by both City and Guilds and the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management.
